Indian Army wool lined winter Parka / Uttarakhand
€40.00 / Sold Out
North of Rishikesh in Northern India as you head towards the Himalayas the landscape starts to become more rugged and demanding
I noticed that many of the local men wore Indian army surplus jackets and thought that this was something to be investigated. I discovered that the multitude of Indian military bases along the border with China (historically a bit tense between the two) led to a steady trade in surplus jackets
As a travel photographer I've found that army surplus jackets are the ideal thing to wear, designed to deal with heavy wear in harsh conditions with lots of deep pockets they are perfect for travelling. I have two U.S military 'M65' jackets which are my standard choice
After a trip to the main market in Dera Dun, the capital of Uttarakhand State I came across and purchased a number of these genuine Indian army surplus jackets
This jacket is basically the terminator. I was snowbound for six days and nights in a Himalayan village and could have done with one of these! I am now thankfully the proud owner of one and the other is here for sale
It is a medium weight parka jacket in tough cotton with a very thick lined and removable wool lining designed for extremely cold weather. This jacket is very warm and will keep you toasty in even the harshest conditions, the wool lining even extends into the hood which is very welcome
It is unissued and has seen no wear, I did have it professionally dry cleaned and this has led to the outer shell fading a bit however and there is some slight wear on the lining from storage.
As it has been professionally cleaned it does not have any hint of a musty smell from storage.
Details as follows:
- Front fastening zipper with fold down velcro flap
- Adjustable drawstring waist
- Two large front pockets with button down flaps
- Adjustable button fastening cuffs
- Removable and extremely warm button in wool lining
- Large hood with rigid and adjustable rim
- Wool lining extends into the hood
The item measures 63cm from pit to pit when laid flat and 70cm in length from the base of the collar down the back.
The jacket would best suit up to 6ft / 1m80 in height with a medium to small chest size
More pictures of the item can be seen below the main image

This is the only example I have at present, postage on multiple items is possible and will be calculated at checkout
